Patricia Ann Morrison was born to James E Morrison Jr. and Rose Marie (Moehle) Morrison October 10, 1952, in Fort Sheridan, IL, where her father was stationed. Pat, a proudly self-proclaimed ‘Iowegian’ grew up and spent much of her life in Boonville, MO, and Fort Madison, Albia, Jefferson, Des Moines, and Emerson, IA. Pat graduated from high school in Jefferson with the class of 1970. She continued her education at University of Missouri at Columbia majoring in journalism with a minor in Spanish literature. Pat became a talented, award-winning journalist and photographer.
In 1988 she was joined in marriage to Virgil Coate. They resided in rural Emerson for many years where Pat was a journalist for the local newspaper and active in the ESL community, sharing her bilingual skills. Pat loved her dogs and spending long afternoons thrifting and antiquing—always hunting for a piece of paneled thistle pressed glass to add to her collection.
In 2003, Pat made a move to Sequim, WA, where she adopted her beloved sheltie dogs Sammy and Blyn. She deployed her talents writing for Sequim Gazette and Living on the Peninsula for 13 years.
Later in years Pat battled with COPD and succumbed to the disease on July 12, 2022. She will be missed and is survived by her mother Rose Morrison of Jefferson; sisters Connie (Michiel) Hoogstede of Poulsbo, WA and Marsha (Tom) Snowgren of Jamaica, IA; nieces Heather (John) Erickson of Perry and Karina (Gie) Coulibaly of Bremerton, WA; nephew Adam (Rachel) Snowgren of Paton; cousin Deb (Don) Schultehenrich of New Bloomfield, MO; and many dear friends.
Pat is preceded in death by her father James Morrison Jr.; uncle Junior Schnack; aunt Ann Schnack; and brother-in-law Dwight Snowgren.
Private memorial services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be given to the animal shelter in honor of Pat and her love of dogs. These can be directed to Marsha Snowgren, 1860 340th St, Jamaica, IA, 50128.
